Abruptly, a pair of intense eyes flash in the gloom. Your heart pounds against your chest as you remain rooted to the spot, unable to move. The gaze hold yours for a moment eternity before vanishing back into the forest. You try to convince yourself it was just a illusion, but deep down, you know something suspicious is lurking in the woods.

A creeping sickness/ailment/malady began to take root within her. It wasn't just a physical/visceral/somatic sensation; it was something more, something that burrowed deep into her very being, twisting and morphing/shifting/altering from the inside out. Her reflection in the mirror became a distorted/alien/unfamiliar visage, the skin stretched taut over bone, revealing veins/tendons/arteries pulsing with an unnatural light. The once-gentle curve of her lips had twisted/contorted/warped into a grotesque smile, teeth sharpened to points that glinted/gleamed/shimmered in the dim light.

She tried to resist/fight/suppress it, but the corruption/infection/possession was relentless, spreading like wildfire through her body/system/flesh. The pain was excruciating, a searing burning/aching/throbbing that threatened to consume her entirely. She felt herself becoming something horrific/monstrous/abominable, a creature she no longer recognized/knew/understood.
